Below are answers to questions we’re commonly asked. If your question isn’t covered here, check the National DSA’s FAQ page or ask members on our Discord.
A: You can request a 1-on-1 call here, or come to any of our events or meetings found on our calendar here.
A: Anyone living in Central Ohio can become a member of Columbus DSA. If you live in Central Ohio and you join the national organization, you are automatically added to our member roster for Columbus DSA.
A: To become a member, you must sign up through National DSA. You can do that here.
A: While we ask members to pay dues so that our work can be funded by the same people who democratically decide how we operate, we do not want money to be the reason you can not join DSA. If you are unable to afford dues, you can request a dues waiver here.
A: All of our events and meetings can be found on our calendar here. Our General Meetings take place in different locations each month around Columbus so that members from all over the city can join.
A: Anything on our website calendar is open to anyone. You do not need to be a member to attend. However, only members can actually vote on official business or speak for or against resolutions at our General Meetings and Convention.
A: We host two social events every month in addition to our General Meeting. You can also get directly involved with a Campaign, Committee, or Working Group.
A: Yes, we use Discord as our public forum to organize our chapter work. Join our Discord here.
A: No, you can be in other orgs/groups as well as DSA.
A: If you can’t join a meeting in person, you can still attend and vote virtually. But if you also can’t attend virtually, to have your vote counted, you must designate another Chapter member as a “proxy” to cast a vote for you at the General Meeting/Convention. You can request a proxy here up to 24 hours prior to the meeting starting.
A: To make a change in the chapter, you must be a dues-paying member and write an Amendment or Resolution and have it voted on by the chapter membership. Read more about that process in our Bylaws here.
