About Us

We are the Columbus, Ohio chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America. As a political activist group, we work on the local and national levels to create a more equitable society for all. We are a member run organization.We welcome all people, members and non-members, to our events.

Membership

Membership in the national Democratic Socialists of America organization and residency in the Columbus area are the only requirements to be considered a member of the Columbus, Ohio chapter of the DSA. You must be a member to vote in our chapter elections or hold elected office within the organization.

Our structure

Our chapter is run by its members and led by its steering committee. The steering committee is the elected leadership of the chapter. They work with the other committees to facilitate the ongoing work of the chapter. Our campaigns are our external facing projects to advance the democratic ideals of socialism. We have working groups organized around issues by Columbus DSA members with a shared vision of work in line with the chapter’s mission. Why we are democratic socialists

We are socialists because we reject an economic order based on private profit, alienated labor, gross inequalities of wealth and power, discrimination based on race and sex, and brutality and violence in defense of the status quo.

We are socialists because we share a vision of a humane social order based on popular control of resources and production, economic planning, equitable distribution, feminism, racial equality and non-oppressive relationships.

We are socialists because we are developing a concrete strategy for achieving that vision, for building a majority movement that will make democratic socialism a reality in America.

We believe that such a strategy must acknowledge the class structure of American society and that this class structure means that there is a basic conflict of interest between those sectors with enormous economic power and the vast majority of the population.
